Gerwin Unleashes Latest Single 'Lying Portraits'/'Soul Truth'

IM:LTD seem to have a midas touch at the moment, and are burrowing further and further into the drum and bass limelight with each stunning release they unleash - most recently, the ’Rise of the Underdogs’ LP. This time, France’s rising star Gerwin has delivered a slice of deep dnb loveliness in the form of brand new single ‘Lying Portraits’/’Soul Truth’.
The A-side ‘Lying Portraits’ is a wonderfully constructed masterpiece, combining melodic instrumental samples - think flutes, brass, and chimes - with some dark, neuro bass swipes and the smooth vocal talents of MC 2Shy for a head-nod-inducing track. Produced alongside European pal Nuage - someone Gerwin is no stranger to making a beat with - ‘Lying Portraits’ is a lush track with an emotional undercurrent, and I’ve been rinsing it ever since it hit the inbox. Lenzman would be proud!
Although I’ve been rinsing the A-side, the B-side ‘Soul Truth’ is my favourite, and is a quality answer to the tune which it backs. Kicking off with a spacious drum sequence and liquid-esque pianos, a soothing R&B-style vocal kicks in, which itself is met with abrupt, contrasting symbol clashes that pave the way for the 808-kick driven darkness that devours you after the drop. Together with ‘Lying Portraits’, it creates a single driven by beautiful sounds and moody basslines, and the tracks are neither perfectly similar or completely opposite to each other - though they share many great qualities, making this release a cracker.
