Lostprophets Frontman Ian Watkins Facing Child Sex Offence Charges

Ian Watkins, the 35-year-old frontman of world famous Welsh rockers Lostprophets, has sensationally been charged with child sex offences and will appear in front of Cardiff Magistrate’s Court later today.

The star, who was rumoured to be involved in a gay sex scandal back in 2010, has been accused of possessing and distributing indecent images of children and has also been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under the age of 13.

A spokesperson told Sky News: "A Pontypridd man has been charged with sexual offences against children and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court today. The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

"In order to assist their investigation, South Wales Police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets.”

Watkins - along with two women, a 20-year-old from Doncaster and a 24-year-old from Bedford - were taken to Cardiff Bay police station for questioning. Detective Inspector Peter Doyle is encouraging people to contact them (using 0800 056 0154) with information and said: “Specially-trained staff are available to speak to anyone with concerns or information regarding this investigation and a dedicated telephone number has been set up. I want to encourage anyone who has any concerns or information which they think may be relevant to contact us.
Safeguarding children involved in such cases is always a high priority and as such measures have already been taken.”

As you can imagine, Twitter is full of messages from fans who seem to be in disbelief at the stories.
