Stereoboard List 5 New Acts To Watch Out For In 2013 (New Music Feature)

As time tells us, we can't and won't rely on our chart hitters to produce different and good music every single time. But if Mercury Prize winning Alt-J have anything to show us, it's that there's still new and impressive sound to discover and creative territory to gain. Championing the great and obscure, Stereoboard has compiled a list of 5 acts for you to keep your beady eye's on over the coming year.

When it comes to music you can’t help but love Denmark and what it has to offer. Karen ‘MØ‘ Ørsted (pictured) is one of many avant-garde sound crusaders taking their sonic journey around the world. Whether it’s an oriental flair on ‘Glass’ or a taste of al fresco dining in Italy on ‘Maiden’ - this percussive Scandinavian seems hell bent on fusing her contempt for international borders with fresh dance beats to create a sound hand-made for 2013.

Jaden/Willow Smith
If being the heir apparent to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air wasn’t enough, the spawn of Will and Jada Smith have been aggressive in their love for music - that’s obvious. Ignore ‘Hair Back and Forth’ and it’s repetitive screams, Willow’s vocals, covers and work with Kate Nash last year speaks volumes about her Alternative ambitions. Jaden on the other hand has a flow and tone that is interesting (if not refreshing) to the rap game. Could this be the year they graduate from Will Smith’s kids to stand-alone musical talent?

Peace
What do you get when you mix Two Door Cinema Club with a mid life crisis? Slightly less optimistic, but bloody brilliant indie pop none the less. At some point those echoing guitar strings will have you believe your somewhere in a cave - and what an amazing cave it would be, like Christmas on acid.

Njomza
Every inch of this American stoner babe sounds like a Beyonce remix, vocally almost identical and it’s backdrop so rhythmic it truly does put the Rhythm into this new interpretation of Rhythm and Blues. Vocals don’t dominate her work, merely compliment it. With music geeks going rampant for this one over the blogs, could Njomza (knee-ohm-zuh) go the same way as Haim, AlunaGeorge and the Sound of 2013 company? Only 2013 will tell.

Still Corners
Epitomizing the growing girl dominance in pop-world, Still Corners are a band that have come out fighting with a ghostly female vocal at the helm, and rightly so. Coming from the home of Nirvana and Band of Horses, these guys usher in an idea that despite HMV falling on it’s ass - things can last. If atmospheric 80s inspired synth-pop is your deal for 2013, then head over to Still Corners. While stocks last.
