Dido Claims New Album Will Be 'A Lot More Upbeat' Than Previous Album

English singer-songwriter Dido has revealed that her last album was created during a ‘darker’ time in her life, and that her forthcoming fourth studio album ‘Girl Who Got Away’ is ‘a lot more upbeat’.
Dido released her third studio album ‘Safe Trip’ in 2008, and it went on to become the 44th best-selling album of that year, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Non-Classical Engineered Album. Now, she’s gearing up for her next release ‘Girl Who Got Away’ - out March 4th - and has spoken about the the differences between the two.
“The last album was a darker time,” Dido told Digital Spy. “It was an amazing time in some ways and I loved making that record but it was also a darker time. The things I was writing about were a lot darker and I would say that there's a lot more upbeat stuff on this record.”
She continued: “I felt really free on this record to make the music I want to make. There's a mixture of all the music I love from dance music, ambient, hip-hop, folk, pop - everything.All the things I like are on there and I guess that's why it's like a big circle, because that's really how I felt making my first record. It just feels really fresh. I feel like a new artist but with confidence that I didn't have at the beginning.”
