American country-pop singer Taylor Swift has confessed that the reason she writes about heartbreak and her personal issues is because it helps get over them.
Swift has an all-star list of ex-boyfriends - most recently One Direction’s Harry Styles - and also has a discography filled with tracks about her past relationships, often putting a negative slant on them, such as in her hit ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’. Speaking to Elle, Swift has revealed why she likes to bring up her heartbreak in her music.
“To me it's just writing songs the way I always have,” Swift revealed: “It's me sitting on my bed feeling pain I didn't understand, writing a song, and understanding it better. If people want to dissect the lyrics, that's their right, but it's all coming from the exact same place as where I started. It's just something I do to feel better.”
She continued: “If [a relationship] is done, it's done. I don't think I've ever yelled at an ex-boyfriend. Ever. I'm not a yeller. I'm not a fit thrower.”
Swift has been confirmed to perform at the BRIT Awards later this month - make sure you catch her set on ITV on the 20th!
