Green Day star Billie Joe Armstrong has opened up about the drink problem which lead to his admission into rehab - confessing that he ‘couldn’t predict’ where he was going to end up at the end of a night out.
Although he now seems to have recovered, Armstrong entered rehab late on last year after suffering what his wife Adrienne described as a ‘bad’ relapse back into alcoholism, following his on-stage meltdown in Las Vegas - which saw him smashing up his guitar and swearing in front of a crowd of Justin Bieber fans.
Now, in an interview with Rolling Stone, he’s opened up about the ordeal, and the effects it had on him and those around him.
“I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night,” Armstrong admitted. “I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout.”
He continued: “I remember tiny things [of the Vegas incident]. The next morning, I woke up. I asked Adrienne, ‘How bad was it?’ She said, ‘It's bad.’ I called my manager. He said, ‘You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately’.”
As mentioned, Armstrong has fortunately made a recovery and the band return to the stage in March, for their SXSW Festival debut. If you’re a fan and want to catch the band live, check the links below to find tickets to their massive gig in London’s Emirates Stadium this June.
