Chart-topping girl group Girls Aloud have confirmed via a statement on Twitter that they have split for good.
Cheryl Cole and co. only recently got back together following a three year hiatus, but after releasing greatest hits compilation ‘Ten’ and finishing their UK tour, they’ve now revealed that they’ve gone their separate ways.
The message - which you can read below - was posted shortly after the girls left the stage in Liverpool’s Echo Arena, the last date on their anniversary tour.
The statement reads: “Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots.”
Cheryl Cole had hinted they’d be parting ways before the gig started - check out some of her tweets below.
Last show !!! When did that happen ??! It was just 5 minutes ago we were starting rehearsals! Feel like I've been in a time machine
So, the tour marks the end of the UK’s highest-selling girl group of the 21st century, who were formed through ITV reality program Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002. They released five studio albums in their time together, hitting #2 with their debut album ‘Sound of the Underground’ back in 2003. That was their highest-charting album - after their most recent record ‘Out of Control’, which hit #1 in 2008. What was your favourite Girls Aloud track? Have you got any fond memories of the group?
