After a brave four-year fight for his life, Chi Cheng, Deftones bassist, has died aged 42.
Chi's family confirmed the sad news early this morning, shocking fans all over the world after Chi showed signs of improvement during recent months. The bassist had been in a semi-comatose state since a 2008 traffic accident.
Cheng’s mother, Jeanne, who had set-up oneloveforchi.com, says: “He was taken to the emergency room at 3am today. His heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.
“He fought the good fight. You stood by him sending love daily. He knew that he was very loved and never alone.
“Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing. I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you.
“It is so hard to let go.”
RIP Chi Cheng 1970-2013.
