Amy Winehouse's Father Unhappy With Beyonce's 'Back In Black' Cover

Tuesday, 23 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has made a dig at American superstar Beyonce’s cover of his daughter’s track ‘Back to Black’ - stating that he thinks she doesn’t ‘bring anything to it’.

Beyonce was recruited by her husband Jay-Z to cover Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ for the up and coming film adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’, for which Jay-Z is executively producing the soundtrack. But, while many fans will be eager to hear the tune, Amy’s dad is less than impressed with it.

Mitch reportedly told The Daily Mail:

“I don't think she brings anything to it. I wasn't asked for my permission if they could record it. They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can't tell you how much it is but it's a lot of money.”

The soundtrack features a load of music from some of today’s biggest stars - Emeli Sande contributed a track alongside Bryan Ferry and the Bryan Ferry Orchestra (who also submitted a song of their own), while Florence and the Machine, Gotye, Jack White, and Nero all chipped in too. Jay-Z himself also features on the soundtrack - his tune ‘$100 Bill’ is the album’s first track.

Lana Del Rey yesterday unveiled her track from the album, which is being used as the film and soundtrack’s buzz track - it’s been released a single you can buy now. Check out the track here - and keep your eyes peeled for the album itself, which hits shelves on May 6th!

For now, check out the trailer for ‘The Great Gatsby’ - it features a snippet of Beyonce’s ‘Back in Black’ cover. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
