Lauryn Hill To Release First Material Since 1998 With New Sony Deal

R&B icon Lauryn Hill has broken the silence about her new $1 million record label with Sony and her escape from a maximum three year jail sentence.
In five carefully penned paragraphs from her blog, Hill revealed her agreement to launch new music through her Sony Worldwide Entertainment subsidiary label.
She explained the significance of having her own label and the contempt she feels for her previous engagements in the music industry:
“This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it. I’ve been fighting for existential and economic freedom, which means the freedom to create and live without someone threatening, controlling, and/or manipulating the art and the artist, by tying the purse strings.”
And her personal satisfaction with the new deal:
“I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.”
Hill last year pleaded guilty to failing to pay tax returns between 2005 and 2007 and potentially faced a 3 year jail sentence and a $100,000 fine.
The deal struck over new record label which will not only see her enjoying more artistic freedom but has given her the means of paying her tax debt of $500,000 by a 2 week deadline. Missing the deadline will a definite prison sentence.
The ex Fugees singer released her debut solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ in 1998, selling 19 million copies and earning Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
Her forthcoming new material will be her first studio release since 1998, 15 years ago.
