TLC Line-Up First Gig For Four Years

Tuesday, 30 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

American girl group TLC have announced their first gig in four years - and it may even feature a hologram of the late Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ Lopes.

The R&B and hip-hop trio are one of the world’s most successful girl-groups, having sold over 65million albums worldwide and enjoying major chart success throughout the 90s. After splitting in 2003 following the tragic loss of Lisa Lopes, who died in a car crash the year before, Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas returned to the public eye in 2008 - putting on a handful of performances and appearing on television.

This week, they’ve lined-up for their first proper gig since a concert in Japan in 2009, which will see them performing alongside pop and R&B acts such as New Kids on the Block, Hanson, and Boyz II Men at The Mixtape Festival in Hersheypark Stadium, Pennsylvania on July 26/27.

The group have previously said that they’ll be releasing a new album in 2013, meaning that any gigs may feature some brand new material from the group. They’re also planning on using recordings of Left Eye’s vocals to help produce a hologram version of their late bandmate, meaning they’d still be able to perform as a trio just like old times.

The idea of using a Left Eye hologram has been around for awhile - Chilli told Metro last year:

“The hologram is something we talked about and thought about years ago, obviously timing is everything but we're definitely talking about it.”
