Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Named As New Stone Temple Pilots Frontman

Tuesday, 21 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington has been announced as the new frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, following the recent firing of Scott Weiland.

The band unveiled Bennington as the new frontman without officially announcing the move - instead putting on a surprise performance featuring the singer at the KROQ Weenie Roast on Saturday night, where they appeared as special guests.

Also appearing as special guests at the 2013 Live 105 BFD festival the following day, the band performed 40 minute sets featuring a brand new single called ‘Out of Time’ as well as older tracks such as ‘Vasoline’. You can check out 'Out of Time' below.

On the same day as the Live 105 BFD festival, the band released new track ‘Out of Time’ as free download via their website, with the single featuring Bennington on vocals. The band’s site also features brand new promotion pictures with Bennington fronting the band.

The band have since confirmed that Bennington is the band’s new frontman for the time being, with guitarist Dean DeLeo saying of the singer:

“Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time. We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

Bennington himself has said of the move:

“I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

If you’re in America, you can catch the band performing with their new vocalist at the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert in California on May 30th. It’s unknown whether the band will hit the UK any time soon, so stick with Stereoboard to stay up-to-date on the band!
