The Rolling Stones Block BBC From Broadcasting Full Glastonbury Set

This year’s Glastonbury is set to be broadcast in style by the BBC, with the company promising the ‘first truly digital’ coverage of the festival - but as hard as they try, they won’t be capturing much of headliners The Rolling Stones, as the band have blocked them from broadcasting their whole set.
The BBC had enthused about their proposed coverage of the festival, and while they look like they’ll be doing their best to make sure all those who weren’t lucky enough to grab tickets will still enjoy Glasto, it appears like we won’t be seeing much of The Rolling Stones’ set - though they’re hoping to get a ‘sufficient amount of music’ secured.
A source close to Mick Jagger and co. has told The Independent why they’ve blocked the BBC:
“Mick agreed to do Glastonbury for the fans who are there, he didn’t sign up for a TV show. It’s not about money. This show will go around the world. If there’s torrential rain it will play havoc with their performance and they want to sound and look at their best. There’s a lot of factors out of their control.”
BBC’s Head of Music Television Mark Cooper is ‘optimistic’ they’ll get enough coverage of the band to please fans, though - and said:
“We are having an on-going discussion with the Stones. I’m talking to Mick about it tonight. At this point I’m quite optimistic we’ll get a sufficient amount of music. I understand it is a risk for them. They are stepping out of their comfort zone.”
The move may suggest that their set could potentially make it to DVD, and if it doesn’t, it does mean that fans will be more inclined to attend their up and coming Hyde Park gigs in the summer - especially if potential ‘torrential rain’ does end up causing the band’s set to suffer. If you fancy getting to one of the gigs, check the dates and links below to try and find any remaining tickets through Stereoboard.
