Pixies Part Ways With Kim Deal

Friday, 14 June 2013 Written by Huw Baines

Pixies have confirmed the exit of bass player Kim Deal.

The legendary alt-rock band posted a brief statement on their Facebook page announcing Deal's departure, having reformed in 2004 after 11 years apart.

Deal's decision to quit comes in the middle of a tour with the Breeders, her 'other' band, who are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal album 'Last Splash'. She has at times endured a difficult relationship with Frank Black, or 'Black Francis', the Pixies' frontman.

Despite this, the band's statement spoke with warmth about Deal's decision and left the door open for her return:

“We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.

Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering.”
