'Pulp Won't Be Playing This Year', Jarvis Cocker States

Wednesday, 19 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Jarvis Cocker, frontman of English rockers Pulp, has revealed that the band won’t be putting on any more live shows this year, following the recent release of new single ‘After You’.

The band last performed together at their homecoming gig in Sheffield back in December, and after that performance, they told the crowd: ‘This is it - for now’. With many taking the message as an announcement of hiatus, we didn’t hear much else from the band - until they put out fresh track ‘After You’ at the end of January, their first single for 11 years.

With the new release, many fans were hoping it would result in some more Pulp shows and maybe even more music, but since then there’s been no new shows or tracks lined-up - there’s not even a festival appearance on the card. So, to clear up what Pulp have in the pipeline, NME got in touch with Cocker - and it looks like fans will have to wait until 2014 to catch them live again.

Asked what he meant by his ‘This is it - for now’ statement, Cocker told the site:

“For a while, you know. That was a good concert that, it was nice. But those things, you can't keep doing them…But Pulp won't be playing this year.”

If you’re a proper Cocker addict, and really need to hear some of his music, check out brand new film ‘The Big Melt’, a documentary about Sheffield’s steel industry. Cocker penned the soundtrack - meaning you can get your fix!
