Toxicology Report Confirms Kris Kross Star Died Of Drug Overdose

Tuesday, 02 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Chart-topping rapper Chris Kelly - one half of hip-hop duo Kris Kross - did die of a drugs overdose, it has been confirmed.

The 34-year-old was found dead in his Atlanta home back in May, and although it was already widely believed that he’d died due to complications involving drugs, a toxicology report has now confirmed the news, according to Digital Spy.

Kelly’s mother Donna had told police officers that her son had taken a speedball - a combination of both heroin and cocaine - hours before he died. The toxicology report actually indicates that there were several substances in his body when he died, though it didn’t specify exactly what he’d taken.

Kelly - aka Mac Daddy - was one half of 90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, alongside Chris Smith, or Daddy Mac. They enjoyed great success in the rap scene, and were most famous for their track ‘Jump’, which topped the Billboard 200 Chart for eight weeks in 1992 and sold over two million copies in the US alone.

This helped their debut album ‘Totally Krossed Out’ top the charts too, and go on to become 4x platinum in the US, and 3x in Canada. Though their following two albums didn’t reach the same dizzy heights, they remain cemented in hip-hop history, and ‘Jump’ still gets played today - you can check it out below.
