Mumford And Sons Claim Olympic Park Gig Was "Shitloads" Better Than Glastonbury Headline Slot

Monday, 08 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Chart-toppers Mumford and Sons headlined an epic event at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London last weekend - and described it as ‘shitloads’ better than their headline slot at Glastonbury Festival in June.

The folk-rockers helped put together the event, one of the biggest shows they’ve ever played, earlier this year, and it went ahead in fantastic style on July 6. Following performances from the likes of Ben Howard, Haim, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Bear's Den, the band took the the stage at 8:45pm to play a storming set.

According to NME, the band - especially keyboard-player Ben Lovett - really enjoyed the show, even more so than their massive set that closed Glastonbury a couple of weeks ago. Lovett reportedly told the crowd:

“Were any of you lot at Glastonbury last weekend? It was a very pleasant experience... [but] you guys are shitloads better than that gig ever was. I think this has been one of my favourite days of my whole life, hands down, no questions asked... Partially down to the bands that played today... and thanks to you 60,000 beautiful London people. We're so grateful to all of you.”

Main man Marcus Mumford was also happy to be there, and said upon arriving on stage:

“How you doing London? We can't tell you how happy we are to be home. Thanks so much for coming tonight.”

He later added:

“We decided that you are without a doubt the best crowd we've ever played in front of ever. We love you very, very much.”
