Motorhead Wacken Set Cut Short Due To Lemmy's Health

Friday, 02 August 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

Motorhead were forced to cut short their Wacken headline set, after the iconic Lemmy Kilmister struggled with recurring health problems.

With the recent news that Lemmy was on the mend, Motorhead fans were excited to hear earlier this week that the band were confirmed to headline the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.

Current reports reveal that Motorhead spent less than 30 minutes onstage (45 minutes less than scheduled) and their set was laced with long stretches of silence. After the penultimate song, following guitarist Phil Campbell's solo, an eerie silence spread over the stage and, while Lemmy was able to return for one more song, he then left the stage for the evening and did not return. Festival boss Thomas Jensen then stepped-out on stage to announce that the Motorhead set was over.

Motorhead performed the following songs before their set for cut short.

1. I Know How To Die
2. Damage Case
3. Stay Clean
4. Metropolis
5. Over The Top
6. The Chase Is Better Than The Catch

Wacken have since issued the following statement through their official website.

"Motörhead rocked the Black Stage for more than 30 minutes and Lemmy gave everything he´s got to play an amazing live show.

"He´s keeping well - but the temperatures and circumstances lead to the point that continuing the show would have lead to a loss of quality.

"We are very happy and proud that Phil, Mikkey and particularly Mr. Rock n Roll himself, Lemmy Kilmister, played W:O:A 2013 and that they did everything humanly possible to play this gig. Thank you so much, guys! "

It certainly seems that Lemmy needs a good rest. Although delighted by the recent news that Lemmy's health was improving, Stereoboard were surprised that the band had decided to return so early. We hope for everybody's sake, especially the big man himself, that he takes some serious time out to recuperate. Get well soon Lemmy.

Motorhead are scheduled to return to UK stages, ensuring everything is indeed louder than everything else, for their traditional November tour. For this year's trek, Saxon will be in tow as support.
