Katy Perry Claims She Exchanged Dark Material For Light In New Record 'Prism'

Wednesday, 28 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

American pop superstar Katy Perry has revealed that she’s decided to head down a happier route with her new album ‘Prism’, despite earlier claims that she’d be doing the opposite.

Perry has lied-up an October 22 release for her new album, and ahead of its release, she’s opened up about what it’ll be like. But, rather than featuring a lot of ‘darkness’ like some had previously thought (she recently revealed lead single ‘Roar’ was inspired by a stint in therapy), she’s actually taken that darkness and transformed it into light - something that led to the title ‘Prism’.

Perry told MTV:

“There's not really any darkness on the record. There's definitely some textures and colours but I think I was saying that when I was going through a different phase, but I really let that light in."The reason why I called this record Prism is because I actually finally let the light in and then I was able to create all these songs that were inspired by letting the light in and doing some self-reflection and just kind of working on myself.”

She continued:

"I felt very prismatic because of that; I feel like now I get to show these songs off and share these songs with the listeners and it's almost like I get to beam the colours that I've experienced out from me.”

Perry releases ‘Roar’ in the UK on September 8 - you can check out the lyric video for it below. Will you be grabbing her new album? Leave us a comment in the box below!
