Bloc Party Compile Dance Music Album

Thursday, 05 September 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Indie-rock titans Bloc Party have compiled a dance music album for German label Studio !K7.

Kele Okereke and co. have become the latest band to put together a ‘Tapes’ collection for the electronic music site, with Okereke himself taking a lead role in compiling the tracks. The singer says he and his bandmates have ‘always respected dance music’ and have paid homage to the EDM genre with this brand new mixtape.

The LP features tracks from big names such as grime star Wiley and UK garage artist Wookie, while veteran artists such as Double 99 and newcomers French Fries also get a look in. Okereke has even thrown in one of his own remixes - a new take on Bloc Party’s track Obscene, which was taken from their new EP ‘The Nextwave Sessions’.

Speaking of the collection, Bloc Party said:

“It’s where lots of ideas for our songs started. Our first single, ‘She’s Hearing Voices’, was very much inspired by the image of people dancing. Rhythm and groove has always been important to the band and I wanted to reflect that. I guess it’s something that I’m taking further with this mix.”

Continuing on about his own production work, he told !K7:

“I've been exploring the idea of remixing other people's music recently and I'm really enjoying it. You can be a lot less precious about things. I turned what is a rather sombre ballad into a jacked-up early '90s house track. Remixing is a good way of being creative without getting too attached to something.”
