MGMT Claim David Guetta Asked Them For A Collaboration

Tuesday, 10 September 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Psychedelic rockers MGMT have claimed that superstar DJ David Guetta once approached them for a collaboration.

Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden are waiting on the release of their third studio album, the self-titled ‘MGMT’, which hits shelves on September 17.

The band had previously opened up about the record, revealing that it has an incredibly trippy and bizarre style (one reviewer described it as ‘beyond weird, but in the best, most deliciously mind-bending of ways’), even admitting that they probably wouldn’t listen to it themselves.

As you can probably tell from their new experimental style, they haven’t been listening to much pop music - something they confessed to Digital Spy in a new interview. They do, however, have some appreciation for David Guetta’s smash hit Titanium - and claimed that the producer once hit them up in regards to a possible collaboration.

They told the site:

“The production [in pop/chart music] a lot of the time is really cool and impressive. But it's hard for me to identify with a lot of the lyrics. So much of it seems to be about completely forgetting any sort of responsibility and having fun. It's nice that people have that music to turn off the world to, but it doesn't have the kind of staying power that I crave.

“What's that huge song - I don't actually like it cos I get so furious when it gets stuck in my head - 'I am titanium' [by David Guetta] It drills into your brain! I think [Guetta] actually has maybe approached us.”
