Bon Jovi Postpone Tour Dates As Drummer Undergoes Surgery

Thursday, 12 September 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Bon Jovi have been forced to postpone a number of live dates after drummer Tico Torres was taken to hospital for an emergency appendectomy.

The band were due to perform in Mexico City, Chile and Argentina, but after Torres became ill they were left with no choice but to reschedule.

The drummer actually wanted to go ahead with the Mexico City gig and then return to the hospital for surgery later, but the doctors advised him to take it easy - meaning he’ll only return to the stageon September 20, when the band perform in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The band broke the news via a post on their Facebook page:

“Tico is now recovering in the care of his doctors at the American British Cowdray Hospital. We'd like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff who helped our friend through this difficult time. We'll remain here with Tico in Mexico City and will see him through his release.

“David [Bryan] and I [Jon Bon Jovi] spent the day with him at the hospital and Tico sends his thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. He wants everyone to know that it was his desire to perform. He even promised the doctors he would come back for the surgery right after the show but the doctors prevailed.

“We know many of you make great efforts and travel from around the world to see us on tour. It remains our desire to give you the best that we have every night. We are sorry for any inconvenience this sudden change of plans may have caused. We'll reschedule any dates that we can and will continue the tour through December. Check BonJovi.com for tour updates.”

Bon Jovi perform two gigs in Brazil on September 20 and 21, then head to North America in October, having already embarked on a UK stadium tour earlier this year. If you’re a fan of the band, click here to see a full list of where Bon Jovi are performing in 2013 and links to buy tickets!
