Lorde Becomes Youngest US #1 For 26 Years

Thursday, 03 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

New Zealand singer songwriter Lorde has become the youngest person to hit #1 in the US for more than 25 years.

The highly-acclaimed newcomer released her debut album ‘Pure Heroine’ just one week ago (it’s out on October 28 here in the UK) , and at the tender age of 16 years and 11 months she has already managed to climb to the top of the Billboard 200 with her first ever US single Royals.

The track originally surfaced back in March of this year, and also hit #1 in her home country. It’s been flying high in the US charts for quite some time, having held down a Top 5 position for a number of weeks. But after word of the single spread like wildfire, it’s now managed to take pole position.

Royals hits shelves in the UK on October 20 and could become her fourth chart-topper, having already managed the feat in Canada as well as America and New Zealand. You can check out the track below - will you be grabbing it when it hits shelves later this month? Leave us a comment in the box below!
