Simian Mobile Disco Unveil New Single Tong Zi Dan - Listen Here

Tuesday, 08 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Simian Mobile Disco have unveiled their brand new single, Tong Zi Dan.

Tong Zi Dan is the second slice of new material from the pair this year, following their Bicep collaboration Sacrifice back in June - though they did release an EP back in April featuring a couple of new live edits.

The track - which you can check out via the player below - is released on 7” vinyl on October 8, backed with a Mike Dehnert remix, and on October 21 it’ll see a digital release alongside two brand new tracks, Smalahove and Escamoles.

Tong Zi Dan seems to have been inspired by a rather strange Chinese ‘delicacy’ of the same name - check out what they had to say about it.

“Tong Zi Dan are the Chinese delicacy usually translated as ‘virgin boy eggs’. Like the tea stained eggs youʼll find in your ramen, these are eggs cracked part way through the boiling process, to let the flavours of the liquid seep through.

“All though in the case of Tong Zi Dan, the liquid is the urine of prepubescent boys. Very much like that urine, the burbling pads and uric submerged melodies permeate the cracked surface of the smooth ovoid outer casing of rhythm.”
