Slayer Could Utilise Jeff Hanneman's Last Recordings In Future

Tuesday, 08 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Thrash metal titans Slayer have announced that they may use recordings of late guitarist Jeff Hanneman’s last work in future.

The band - and in particular Tom Araya - had been uncertain about going ahead with a new record without Hanneman, who had performed with them for their whole 30+ year career before tragically dying of liver failure earlier this year. But with audio files and tracks created by the late axeman at their disposal, it seems fans do have something to look forward to.

Speaking to Loudwire, Araya revealed:

“I haven’t had the privilege of going through his audio files at the moment, but that’s something I plan to do. He had several ideas together that he’d presented to us in the course of the past year. There was one complete song that he’d managed to send to everybody, that I thought was really, really good and communicated that to him.

“There’s stuff that would be great to listen to, just to see what’s there and how we can possibly use what he had done.”

Continuing on, Araya also explained that the material was ‘signature Jeff’, but also didn’t sound like anything else they’d created before.

“I don’t want to use the term ‘typical’ but it’s Jeff – it’s obvious who put the song together. He created a certain way and he put music together a certain way; it’s signature Jeff. It’s new, it doesn’t sound like anything else that we’ve done, in my opinion.”

Slayer already have two new tracks written for a potential new LP, as well as one left behind from their 2009 album ‘World Painted Blood’.
