Shane Meadows Suggests The Stone Roses Have New Music

Tuesday, 22 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Acclaimed director Shane Meadows has hinted that The Stone Roses may be putting out some new music in the near future.

The This is England man had been following The Stone Roses as they returned for live shows last year, creating brand new documentary film The Stone Roses: Made of Stone which was released earlier this year.

Despite their massive return - which saw them touring across Europe and playing some huge gigs in the UK - the band haven’t unleashed any new music, and fans are itching to hear anything they may have put together since their comeback.

Now, Meadows has revealed that they have indeed been putting some tracks together - though they wouldn’t give him a single chance to listen to them!

He told NME:

“I went up one day when they’d been writing some stuff and there was a four-track machine there and I thought now I'm actually editing the film, if they walk out of the room and leave that I'm going to press play and I'm going to risk getting beaten up just to hear it. They never left me in the room on my own.

“I know they were writing and it wasn't fiction and I know that there were definitely tunes getting laid down. But, as with everything to do with The Stone Roses, putting a time frame on it I wouldn’t have the faintest idea.”

The only thing that is (almost!) certain is that they WILL eventually release some tunes - they’ve already signed record deals with Universal and Columbia for the US.
