John McVie, the longtime bassist and co-founding member of legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac, has been diagnosed with cancer.

Although no information has been forthcoming on John's diagnosis as yet, the band have been forced to cancel the upcoming leg of their world tour in Australia and New Zealand while McVie undergoes treatment.

A statement posted on Fleetwood Mac's Facebook page confirmed the news.

Fleetwood Mac who has just completed the European leg of their phenomenally successful worldwide tour has announced the cancellation of their upcoming 14 date tour of Australia and New Zealand.

John McVie, one of the co-founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac is now scheduled to be in treatment for cancer during that period of time.

"We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates. We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best."

Fleetwood Mac have been heavily tipped to be making an appearance at Worthy Farm next year as one of the headline acts for Glastonbury Festival. The band made a triumphant return to the UK last month with a series of sold out shows, including three nights at London's O2 Arena where John's ex-wife Christine McVie reunited with Fleetwood Mac for the first time since her departure in the 90's.

Everyone at Stereoboard.com wishes John a speedy recovery.
