Billy Joel will play one show at month at New York's Madison Square Garden for "as long as there is demand".
The pop legend already has five dates in the diary for next year - January 27, February 3, March 21, April 18 and May 9 - and now has his own banner at the famous arena, which is hanging alongside those of the Knicks, Liberty and Rangers sports teams.
Announcing the plans at a press conference, Joel said:
"Playing Madison Square Garden is an experience that never gets old. A show a month at the Garden for as long as there's demand means more opportunities to connect with music fans and provides a unique and memorable show every time we play here."
James Dolan, executive chairman of the Madison Square Garden Company, added:
“Since his first show in 1978, Billy has performed 46 shows at Madison Square Garden, including an unprecedented 12 consecutive sold-out shows that have earned Billy a spot among the Garden greats with a banner raised in his honour. Today, we take that relationship even further and are extremely honoured to have Billy as The Garden’s first music franchise."
