Christmas is gone, finished, over. Stop crying. It’s 2014, and it’s time to remember that your diary could soon be fit to burst with gigs from each end of the musical spectrum - from stadium spectacles to club shows that will remain seared in your memory.
Here we take a look at just 10 of the tours that we can’t wait to get involved with in the next few months. Dust off your dancing/moshing/gazing shoes.
With their new album, ‘Rave Tapes’, just around the corner, the legendary Scottish experimentalists will play a short run of shows in January, including a brace at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Time to get immersive.
Beyoncé’s surprise new record, released with no fanfare in December, proved that she’s the biggest fish in whatever pond she decides to take a swim in. She’ll return to UK arenas in February as her Mrs Carter Show world tour continues.
‘Cupid Deluxe’, DevHynes’ second album under the Blood Orange banner, was one of the most interesting releases of 2013 and he will head back to London for a rare show - his first in over two years - at Village Underground in February.
It’s been some time since ‘Red’ landed, heralding a new creative peak, and UK fans are now finally set to get a dose of Taylor Swift’s live show during a five night residency at London's O2 Arena.
She’s been missed. Having knocked the Distillers on the head back in 2006 and stepped away from Spinnerette, Dalle is preparing to release her first solo record and this one-off date - an NME Awards show at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen - is a prime opportunity to catch some new material.
‘Doris’ was one of the best hip hop records of 2013 and showed its creator to be a fascinating, complex character. Earl will land in the UK and Ireland for a short run of dates during March, giving fans the chance to catch his raucous live show.
It’s been some time since we had this lot over and their huge fanbase has been waiting patiently. A recent series of ‘discography’ shows in the States whetted the appetite further, and Jesse Lacey and friends will find a warm welcome for their April tour. Their London date, at the stunning, art-deco Troxy, will be a highlight.
With a Glastonbury headline slot in the bank and ‘AM’ nestled in the upper reaches of many end of year lists, May will see Arctic Monkeys step up once again and put on two huge outdoor shows at London’s Finsbury Park.
This could be the tour of the year. Trent Reznor is back, with a great new album in tow, and as ever he’s putting maximum effort into delivering a stage show that will enhance his music, offering thought-provoking imagery over empty spectacle.
‘Lightning Bolt’ proved that Pearl Jam still have enough piss and vinegar in the tank to cut it against the young bucks and their two summer dates - in Leeds and Milton Keynes - are set to prove that they remain as relevant as ever to rock fans.
