Mötley Crüe Confirm Retirement And Final Farewell Tour With Alice Cooper

Tuesday, 28 January 2014 Written by Jon Stickler

US rock icons Mötley Crüe have confirmed their retirement after 33 years as one of rock 'n' roll's most enduring bands.

The band - who recorded a string of rock anthems such as Kickstart My Heart and Girls Girls Girls - announced the news earlier today at a Hollywood press event, dubbed RIP: All Bad Things Must Come To An End.

On a stage adorned with headstones for Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars, the band revealed that they will hit the road for one final tour encompassing 72 dates in North America and Canada, enlisting Detroit rock legend Alice Cooper as a special guest on the trek. This will be the first time the two acts have ever toured together.

While Crüe will keep the option of holding one-off reunion shows open, the band have insisted that their farewell tour will be a final tour and they won't hold multiple farewell tours. They are the first band to sign a binding Cessation of Touring agreement to prevent future unauthorised touring, meaning that if any of the members attempt to perform under the name Mötley Crüe, they all have the right to stop the tour or sue for damages.

Vince Neil said:

"We don't want to be one of those bands that maybe have one guy left in it or somebody's brother. We want to end it with the four founding members of Mötley Crüe and go out on top."

As part of their retirement plans a movie is to be based based on the band's infamous 2001 autobiography The Dirt. Jackass director Jeff Tremaine has been signed up for directing duties.

There are no UK or European shows confirmed at present, however, the band are expected to announce further dates to continue The Final Tour into 2015. For a full list of shows, as well as ticket details, head over to motley.com.
