Prince Continues London Residency With Two Electric Ballroom Sets

Thursday, 06 February 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Prince continued his guerilla tour of London by playing two sets at Camden's Electric Ballroom on February 5.

The funk superstar, who earlier this week ran through an 'open soundcheck' for press, took to the stage twice, clearing the room following the first set, after large queues formed outside the north London venue.

In his review for the Guardian, Ben Beaumont-Thomas said:

"It's a wonderfully dissonant feeling: a galaxy-class showman playing like a band with a residency in their local bar. Laura Mvula, Lianne La Havas and Paloma Faith are some of the big musical names headnodding among the plebs.

"Prince comes on dressed in a dark sleeveless jacket, and has picked his afro out. Cast in the shadow of the strobe light, he could be Sly Stone, Marc Bolan, or Hendrix, and draws a little from each."

Prince is supporting 'Plectrumelectrum', his new album with backing band 3RDEYEGIRL, and is expected to announce further shows for February in the near future. "We'll work our way up, if people like us, to bigger venues," he said during a press briefing at La Havas' home on Tuesday.
