Tony Molina - Dissed And Dismissed (Album Review)

Friday, 28 March 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Got 12 minutes spare? Of course you have. That’s all the time you’ll need to get acquainted with ‘Dissed And Dismissed’, a sharp burst of pop brilliance from Bay Area native Tony Molina.

The record has been given the reissue treatment by Slumberland after first emerging early last year on tape, through Melters, and it richly deserves a second bite at the cherry.

Combining a heavy dose of ‘Blue Album’-era Weezer with a seemingly merciless desire to keep things brief, ‘Dissed And Dismissed’ doesn’t once nudge past the two minute mark on any of its 12 songs.

What’s remarkable is just how much melody Molina can squeeze into the truncated running times. These are not the sub-60 second bursts of hardcore fury he hammers out with Caged Animal, but tiny curios boasting layered guitar harmonies and easygoing slacker choruses.

With a new album on the way later this year, the time is now to get your head around ‘Dissed And Dismissed’. It’s short and sweet, the perfect foil to a brisk stroll, or an antidote to a boring conversation.
