Flea, Mars Volta Project Antemasque Release First Single

Thursday, 10 April 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Antemasque, a new band featuring Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Omar Rodríguez-López and Dave Elitch of the Mars Volta and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, have unveiled their first single.

The song, 4AM, is a slice of garage rock closer to At The Drive In than the proggy expanses occupied by the Mars Volta, with Flea adding a typically malleable bassline.

The band surfaced earlier this week with a series of rehearsal videos, while Flea took to Twitter to dismiss the 'supergroup' tag. "Woke to find out I'm in a new supergroup. Hahahaha. Played on some tracks a few weeks ago with my friends omar and Cedric for love that all," he wrote.
