London Wembley Arena To Be Renamed The SSE Arena in June

Thursday, 10 April 2014 Written by Elliott Batte

London’s iconic Wembley Arena is set to be renamed The SSE Arena, Wembley this summer, as part of a brand new partnership between the energy company and AEG Live.

The 12,500 capacity venue will begin using its new moniker from June 1 onwards, and will remain under the name for at least the next ten years, with the potential for refurbishment in the pipeline too.

Officially the ‘SSE Arena, Wembley’, it’ll see its concourses and foyer given a fresh makeover and follows the redevelopment of Wembley Park, which has been gifted a new designer outlet, cinema, and restaurant/coffee shop strip.

AEG Europe rep Tom Miserendino has commented:

“Wembley is one of the world’s most iconic venues, steeped in history with some of the greatest artists having performed under its roof. Over the last few years however, the venue landscape in the UK and Europe has changed with many more venues for artists and acts to choose from.

"This naming-rights partnership with SSE enables us to undertake the refurbishments to restore this renowned arena. SSE’s investment in Wembley will further strengthen its offer as a world class entertainment venue and will continue to highly entertain audiences for many more years in the future.”
