RZA Discusses Raekwon's Wu-Tang Strike And 'A Better Tomorrow'

Thursday, 24 April 2014 Written by Huw Baines

RZA has discussed Raekwon's current "strike" from Wu-Tang Clan, admitting that if their differences are not resolved in 30 days then there will be knock on effects for 'A Better Tomorrow', their long-gestating new album.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Raekwon questioned the record's handling and dismissed Keep Watch, the first single. He said:

"RZA’s the type of dude where, in the '90s, he ruled. Now it’s a new day. You’re not attached no more. It’s like being a coach and you won rings back in the day, but now your team is in ninth place. It’s time for a new fucking game plan."

Now, in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, RZA has responded, admitting that there's a possibility that the album will go ahead without Raekwon, or be shelved altogether. He said:

"The album is slated to come out in July. If we don't come to terms, I think, within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never sees the light of day. And that's a very strong potential.

"I would not want to put out a Wu-Tang album without every live member available. We can't put Ol' Dirty on it because he's not here physical, right? At the same time, I don't want the fans not to have this incredible music that we've been working on for the last year. So that's going to be a tough decision, but we've got about 30 days, I think, to make that decision and come to that conclusion."

Meanwhile, Wu-Tang Clan recently confirmed that they would release just one copy of a separate new album, 'The Wu - Once Upon A Time In Shaolin'. Check out more on that here.
