Michael Eavis Drops Glastonbury Headliner Hint, Dismisses Oasis Speculation

Tuesday, 29 April 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Michael Eavis has confirmed that "one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment" will headline Saturday night at Glastonbury this summer.

The final piece of the line up jigsaw is set to be announced in early May, with Arcade Fire and Kasabian already confirmed to top the bill at Worthy Farm.

Eavis told the Bristol Post:

"We are expecting to announce the full line-up at the beginning of May and everything is now in place. We are more than happy with the calibre of the acts and the headliner on Saturday will be one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment."

Eavis also dismissed recent speculation linking Oasis with the festival, although he insisted that should the indie legends reunite they would be welcome to return in future. Eavis's daughter, festival organiser Emily, was first to brush aside the rumours during the course of the weekend.

He continued:

"The Oasis thing had nothing to do with us, we hadn't even considered asking them. They have played at the festival three or four times and they are a great band. They were not that well known the first time they played here but they were a great band even then.

"I am not sure that Noel is ready to go back on the road with Oasis because he has his own band at the moment. I think if it were to happen and they did come back to Glastonbury it would probably be in four or five years time – I can't see it happening before then."

Also on this year's bill are Pixies, Jack White, Massive Attack, Elbow, Paolo Nutini, Robert Plant, Disclosure, Manic Street Preachers, Foster The People, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, London Grammar, Danny Brown, Metronomy, Interpol, the Black Keys, MIA, Skrillex, the 1975 and more.
