Nick Cave and London Grammar were among the winners at the Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday.
Cave took home the Best Album award for ‘Push The Sky Away’, beating Arctic Monkeys and Laura Mvula, with London Grammar’s Strong seeing off competition from John Newman and Palma Violets to win the Best Song Musically And Lyrically section.
James Blake's Retrograde, meanwhile, was named Best Contemporary Song ahead of Disclosure's Latch and Everything Everything's Kemosabe. Blake also scooped the Mercury Prize last autumn. The PRS for Music Most Performed Work prize went to Passenger for Let Her Go.
Tom Odell was named Best Songwriter, while special recognition went to the Chemical Brothers, for Outstanding Song Collection, Nile Rodgers, Special International Award, Jerry Dammers, Inspiration Award, Jeff Beck, Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie, who accepted a Lifetime Achievement gong.
