Final Fling: The Stereoboard T In The Park Setlist

Wednesday, 09 July 2014 Written by Matt Williams

The biggest festival of the Scottish summer is nearly here, with Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, Paolo Nutini and Arctic Monkeys all lined up to bid a fond farewell to Balado.

Next year, T In The Park will set up shop at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire, with the 2014 main stage bill - which also features Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, Paul Weller, Ellie Goulding and Pharrell Williams - suitably plated in stardust as a send-off.

Here, though, we have a rummage around for a few bands who could secure a chapter in T history by stealing the show. We’ve gone for possible future headliners, local heroes and bands with past glories to update. Go!

Disclosure - Radio 1 Stage, Sunday

The brothers Lawrence are already a big deal, let’s not pretend otherwise. They’ll top the bill on the Radio 1 Stage, but in a couple of years could be overseeing the whole damn thing. With ‘Settle’ still doing the rounds and their remix skills - Jay Z and Usher being the latest to get the treatment - keeping everyone invested in their movements, there’s no sign of their star slipping any time soon.

Franz Ferdinand - King Tut’s Tent, Sunday

The salad days of Take Me Out are long gone, but Franz Ferdinand are still standing. Older, wiser and in possession of a great record - the infectious ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action’ - their King Tut’s tent set could be a homecoming to savour. No need for nostalgia here.

Embrace - King Tut’s Tent, Saturday

Embrace had been away for some time, eight years to be exact, but their return didn’t follow the script. Rather than trotting out a bunch of lumbering Britpop throwbacks, the band turned in the lithe, New Order-indebted ‘Embrace’ earlier this year. And, well, they’ve always been good value live. Case closed.

Chvrches - King Tut’s Tent, Friday

Chvrches are still bubbling under following the release of ‘The Bones Of What You Believe’, but their infectiously endearing brand of electro-pop will demand a warm welcome on home soil this weekend. After all, The Mother We Share is pretty much perfect, while the majestic Recover has even wormed its way into Paolo Nutini’s set of late.

Maximo Park - Radio 1 Stage, Friday

One of the UK’s most frequently interesting guitar bands on relatively early in a tent you say? Sign us up. Maximo Park’s chart-bothering peak may be fading into the distance a little, but ‘Too Much Information’, released earlier this year, showed that they are still an artistic force to be reckoned with. Absolutely worth your time.

George Ezra - King Tut’s Tent, Saturday

As the charts will tell you, everyone loves a singer-songwriter. George Ezra is the latest off the conveyor belt but, if you look a little closer, theres something different about him. It’s called a personality. His debut, ‘Wanted On Voyage’, is packed with singalongs that will reverberate off the walls of the King Tut’s Tent, just as they could soon fill some of the biggest venues in the country. A star in the making.
