Sting To Mark Gateshead Sage Anniversary With Live Shows

Wednesday, 27 August 2014 Written by Jon Stickler

Sting will play two nights at the Sage in Gateshead to help celebrate the venue's 10th anniversary.

The former Police frontman, who was born in neighbouring Wallsend, will call in at the venue on April 24 and 25 next year to perform songs from 'The Last Ship'. The shows will be the only UK performances of their kind.

Sting said:

"The Last Ship is a musical allegory set in Wallsend, the town where I was born and raised.

"The demise of industry, not only in shipyards like Tyneside and Gdansk, but also great manufacturing centres like Detroit, has been well documented and the effect of that demise on the identity and future of local communities particularly resonates with me. I'm very much looking forward to bringing these songs and stories home.

"The North East has a great creative atmosphere and legacy. The Sage sits proudly at its cultural heart and I'm always happy to support it."

Tickets are on sale at 10am on September 1, priced at £49.50 plus fees, with money helping to fund educational projects at the venue.

Sting Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:

Fri April 24 2015 - GATESHEAD Sage
Sat April 25 2015 - GATESHEAD Sage
