Survivor Vocalist Jimi Jamison Dies Aged 63

Tuesday, 02 September 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Survivor vocalist Jimi Jamison has died aged 63.

In a post to their Facebook page, the ‘80s rockers confirmed the news: “The entire Survivor family is very shocked and saddened by the passing of our brother Jimi Jamison. Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

TMZ reports that Jamison died of a heart attack at home in Memphis, according to his booking agent. The band are due to begin a world tour, including UK dates, on September 12 in Parker, Colorado. Currently, it's unclear whether the shows will go ahead.

In recent years, Jamison has shared frontman duties with Dave Bickler, who performed with the band during their Eye Of The Tiger success.

Jamison joined the group in 1984, recording ‘Vital Signs’, ‘When Seconds Count’ and ‘Too Hot to Sleep’, before re-joining the line-up in 2000 and leaving again in 2006 to release a run of solo and collaborative records in the wake of Survivor's 'Reach'. In 2011 he returned for a third stint. He also co-wrote and performed I’m Always Here, the theme to ‘90s TV staple Baywatch.
