Last Hurrah: The Stereoboard Bestival Setlist

Tuesday, 02 September 2014 Written by Matt Williams

Festival season is nearing its end, leaving behind it a few million crushed paper cups, a bit of rain, some sun and a boatload of memories. Think of Bestival as the play-offs; late in the day but packed with excitement.

Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle Of Wight will again play host, with Josie and Rob Da Bank opting for a Desert Island Disco theme this time around. Providing star wattage to power the general merriment are headliners Outkast, Foals, Beck and Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, while Busta Rhymes will make his UK festival bow and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip will go their separate ways.

But, after all that, we know you’re greedy. So now, without further ado, here are just a few of our picks for what should be a smashing time.

Jenny Lewis - Big Top/Thursday

Bestival throws open its doors on Thursday night, with Jenny Lewis set to provide one of the first highlights at the Big Top. Her recent album, ‘The Voyager’, was an absolute treat, packed with west coast pop nous and her self-deprecating wit. And, she recently toured with Beck, turning in a lovely duet of Rod Stewart’s hip-thrusting disco classic Da Ya Think I’m Sexy in the process, so…

Woman’s Hour - Invaders Of The Future/Thursday

As our recent profile of the band showed, Woman’s Hour are very interesting indeed. An indie-pop group that fuses influences from film and photography with nagging melodies and Fiona Burgess’ icy cool, they’re 3D in a scene increasingly populated by facsimiles of past glories.

Caribou - Big Top/Friday

A possible bone of contention here as Outkast are lining up to headline the Main Stage on Friday night, but Caribou’s set at the Big Top is a must-see for anyone who can’t wait for the release of ‘Our Love’. The snippets we’ve heard from Dan Snaith’s latest so far are enchanting.

Skindred - Main Stage/Saturday

You have to. This is going to be nuts.

Chvrches - Big Top/Sunday

It’s a neat way to finish up. Chvrches’ ‘The Bones Of What You Believe’ has been the soundtrack to the last 12 months for many people and is likely to end up on the Mercury Prize list next week. This set, then, is a fine opportunity to add another layer to your affection for the Scottish trio.

Bestival Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:

Thu September 04 2014 - ISLE OF WIGHT Robin Hill Country Park
