Swans, Savages To Join Wire At Drill: Brighton

Wednesday, 17 September 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Swans and Savages will play the Wire-curated Drill: Brighton between December 4 and 7.

Swans will combine with the festival organisers for an extended version of Drill, while Wire’s Pink Flag will also get the experimental treatment with help from collaborators pulled from across the bill. Announcing the event, which follows Drill festivals in London and Seattle, Wire said:

“The concepts behind DRILL : FESTIVAL are simple: to challenge preconceptions of Wire. To show-case their impact on and relationship with groups and artists from younger generations, to connect with both new and established artists whose work they find inspiring and feel that they have a kinship with.

“This then opens up opportunities for one-off collaborations – DRILL : BRIGHTON for example will see Wire team up with rock titans SWANS to perform an extended version of the always-mutating Wire track ‘Drill’, as well as the return of the historic 'Pinkflag Guitar Orchestra', which sees Wire joined onstage by members of bands who are involved over the course of the festival, along with local friends, allies and past collaborators, the guitarists then play an extended, improvised version of Wire's ‘Pink Flag’ at high volume.”

Also confirmed in the first batch of artists due to appear are Toy, Courtney Barnett, the Wytches, Mono, East India Youth, Telegrama, Gold Panda, Grumbling Fur, Samaris, Goblin, Ulrich Schnauss, the Physics House Band, God Damn, Damo Suzuki, Githead, Traams, Man Forever, Helen Money, Gulp, Spectres, Cuts and Thor Harris.
