AC/DC Drummer Phil Rudd Charged With Attempting To Procure Murder

Thursday, 06 November 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Phil Rudd, drummer of the legendary hard rock band AC/DC, has been charged with attempting to procure murder at a New Zealand court.

The 60-year-old sticksman, who has played with the band in two spells since 1975, was also charged with threatening to kill and possession of cannabis and methamphetamine, reports the New Zealand Herald.

Rudd’s home in Tauranga, on New Zealand’s north island, was raided on Thursday morning. He has been bailed until November 27.

AC/DC are preparing to release a new album, ‘Rock Or Bust’, on December 1. It is the first of their records not to feature guitarist Malcolm Young, whose family recently confirmed that he has been battling dementia.

UPDATE: AC/DC have issued a statement regarding the charges to Rolling Stone: "We've only become aware of Phil's arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year."
