Lionel Richie has been confirmed as the first artist to be booked for next year’s Glastonbury.
The soul legend will play a Sunday afternoon set on the Pyramid Stage, his first at a UK festival, following up Dolly Parton’s run in the teatime slot this summer. Emily Eavis said:
“We are over the moon. We’ve had some amazing performances in the Sunday teatime slot over the years, from Neil Diamond, Shirley Bassey, Paul Simon and many others. And, of course, Dolly Parton played an incredible set this year. So we felt very lucky to get the call from a true Motown legend asking to play next year. He’s got so many amazing songs, to see him perform here on the farm is just going to be wonderful.”
Glastonbury will run from June 24-28 at Worthy Farm, while Richie will head to the UK and Ireland for a series of arena shows in Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff, Nottingham and London early next year.
