Ian McLagan, keyboard player with the Faces and Small Faces, has died aged 69.
A post on his website confirmed that he died from complications arising from a stroke suffered on December 2 in Austin, Texas, where he had lived for many years.
Kenney Jones, his bandmate in the Faces and Small Faces, said:
“I am completely devastated by this shocking news and I know this goes for Rod (Stewart) and Ronnie (Wood) also.”
McLagan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his bandmates in 2012 and was due to begin a US tour with Nick Lowe at the time of his death.
UPDATE: Rod Stewart has offered the following tribute to NME: "I'm absolutely devastated. Ian McLagan embodied the true spirit of the Faces. Last night I was at a charity do, Mick Hucknall was singing 'I'd Rather Go Blind', and Ron Wood texted to say Ian had passed. It was as if his spirit was in the room. I'll miss you mate."
