Foo Fighters will headline the Friday night of this year's Glastonbury festival.
Dave Grohl announced the news during his acceptance speech for Best International Band at last night's NME Awards. Glastonbury also picked up best Best Festival at the awards.
The Foo Fighters will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night. It will be their first performance at the festival since they played in 1998. They join the already announced Lionel Richie. The full line up will be revealed in the spring.
Festival organiser Emily Eavis said:
“We feel incredibly lucky to have confirmed the Foo Fighters for the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year. Very few bands have the power to unite and energise a crowd like Foo Fighters do. We can’t wait for them to rock Worthy Farm on Friday night.”
Glastonbury takes place this summer from June 24 to June 28 near Pilton, Somerset, England. Tickets for the festival sold out in October. However, they have advised that there is likely to be a resale of any cancelled and returned tickets after April.
The band have also shared the news that their TV series Sonic Highways will be released on DVD next month. Pre-orders will start on the band's website on March 9. It will also be available via iTunes on March 7.
