Tuesday, 14 April 2015 Written by Huw Baines

Soul legend Percy Sledge has died, aged 73.

Sledge’s agent, Steve Green, confirmed that the vocalist died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Tuesday morning. He told BBC News: "He was one of my first acts, he was a terrific person and you don't find that in this business very often. He was truly a standout."

Born in Alabama, Sledge took his first single, the classic When A Man Loves A Woman, to top spot on the Billboard 100 in 1966. It would remain his biggest hit. In 2005, meanwhile, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
