No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal has revealed the band have begun work on their new album, but without singer Gwen Stefani.
Stefani has enjoyed a successul solo career since her hiatus from the band, but the singer is currently pregnant with her first child, which is due in June. She is expected to rejoin the band this year to work on the vocals.
Kanal told MTV: "I wouldn't even say this album is in its infancy. Its conception, if anything... It's so super-early on. We're easing into it. We're taking it very slowly, kind of just going in and writing here and there." The Californian bassist also revealed the album is very much in its infancy, but couldn't rule out a change in direction from the normal ska-rock of previous albums. He said: "We've been doing this so long that if we try to set a place to go to, we'll never get there. So we're letting that road unfold in front of us." "I'm sure we'll have the same influences, all the reggae and rock stuff we grew up on, and a bunch more, so we can go in a different direction as well."
