The song was premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show last night. Talking to Lowe about the song, Twigs said:
"I wrote figure 8 after I'd finished LP1. Maybe four, five months later. It's called Figure 8 because the 8 represents eternity and I was just feeling, actually quite sad and I was feeling a bit lost. You know, it's difficult when you've released your first record you kind of get thrown into this weird world and it's difficult to really keep hold of who you are and what you want to do."
