Pearl Jam Cancel North Carolina Date In HB2 Protest

Pearl Jam have cancelled the Raleigh date on their US tour.
The band were due to play the city’s PNC Arena on April 20, but have pulled the show in protest at North Carolina’s HB2 law, which impinges on the rights of transgender people and strips many nondiscrimination protections from the state’s LGBT community.
In a statement, which you can read in full below, the grunge legends said:
"The HB2 law that was recently passed is a despicable piece of legislation that encourages discrimination against an entire group of American citizens. The practical implications are expansive and its negative impact upon basic human rights is profound. We want America to be a place where no one can be turned away from a business because of who they love or fired from their job for who they are."
Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, Ringo Starr and Boston have also recently cancelled shows in the state in protest, while Against Me! will play their May 15 show in an act of defiance.
"I'm going to create an event around the show as a form of protest to say that despite whatever stupid laws they enact, trans people are not going to be scared," Laura Jane Grace told Buzzfeed.
She added: “I think the real danger with HB2 is that it creates a target on transgender people specifically. When you feel targeted as a trans person, the natural inclination is to go into hiding. But visibility is more important than ever; to go there and have the platform of a stage to stand on and speak your mind and represent yourself.”
